At the heart of every company that makes healthy profits every day is an affiliate marketing manager that ensures that affiliates around the world are selling their products and services automatically. Affiliate marketing is a huge part of a business plan, and the affiliate marketing manager is the one who keeps everything running.

So, what are the characteristics of a perfect affiliate marketing manager?

Well, first of all, the perfect affiliate marketing manager has to be able to talk to people face to face and on the phone. Affiliate managers are the face of the company when they go to conferences and anywhere else where there’s contact with potential affiliates. They must be able to sell themselves and their company to affiliates and persuade them to promote their product.

The perfect affiliate marketing manager must be able to provide whatever tools and services affiliates need to make as many sales as possible. They realize that, in general, most marketers are lazy and don’t want to do a lot of work to promote your product. Therefore, affiliate marketing managers must provide tools such as banner ads, emails, and text ads to the affiliate to make it as easy as possible.

Another reason the perfect affiliate marketing manager must be a good “people person” is because he must be able to motivate affiliates to keep selling their products. The affiliate marketing manager either calls potential affiliates on the phone or devises incentives such as bonuses or a refund of part of the commission to keep affiliates motivated. It can be a tough job since most affiliate partners have busy lives, but the dividends of increased affiliate sales are well worth it.

One thing the affiliate marketing manager knows very well is that, when the affiliates are happy, then they will keep promoting products.

Therefore the job of the affiliate marketing manager is to keep everyone happy as possible so they keep promoting.

In addition, the affiliate marketing manager knows the importance of having a good affiliate marketing process for the company. It works well both ways: the affiliate makes money without having to create his/her own product, and the affiliate marketing manager’s company makes money on autopilot with minimal marketing.

If you are starting out in online marketing, you’ll be able to be your own affiliate marketing manager. But as your business grows and you need to hire employees, a good affiliate marketing manager can bring extra profits to your company—even while you sleep or are on vacation with the kids.

If you want to discover affiliate marketing techniques that’ll require hiring an affiliate marketing manager to take care of the extra business, then head on over and get this free video.

I don’t know who said it but I wish I had a famous quote to use here about emulating the success of others if you want to have similar success. We can learn how to be successful by doing what successful people do. Super affiliate, Andrew Fox, lives by this rule. He has put out a free report that reveals some of his history and how he has become one of clickbanks’ leading affiliates.

In the report he states that he studied the techniques of Corey Rudl and Yanik Silver. He saved up his money and bought Corey Rudl’s marketing DVD’s and went into business online with a partner. Five years later, the partnership had split up and Andrew had learned a few things about affiliate marketing. Enough to make over $39,000 selling “The Day Job Killer” as an affiliate.

I am telling you this story because Andrew is about to launch a new product called Affiliate X Factor on March 12th, 2008. But this isn’t about the product. This is about the pre-launch campaign and the methods he is using that set him apart from the rest and truly make him a super affiliate. Lets look at his campaign.

The first thing he has done is create a free report to give away. No big deal and nothing new. He is collecting email addresses through a squeeze page so he builds his list as he gives away his free report. Again, no big surprise, this is standard operating procedure among marketers in the know. (newbies, I hope you are taking notes) Now here is where it gets interesting. Andrew states in his free report that one of the biggest reasons that most affiliate marketers do not do well is because they do not spend the effort required to make what they are doing unique.

You must ask yourself, “How can I set myself apart from the rest of the crowd?” How did Andrew? By giving away $1.00 for every referral and $.50 for every second tier referral. All you have to do is get someone to download his free report and you earn a dollar. You then get fifty cents for anyone they get to download the free report. You also will make a 50% commission is any of your referrals buys the product when it launches. Most of you are probably thinking, “Andrew has lost his mind, he’s going to end up paying out a lot of money”.

You are probably correct, but he his going to probably make ten times what he pays out. You need to remember that every referral he pays is also now a subscriber to his newsletter. Some people will opt out but most won’t. Andrew is very good at relation marketing and he will make a lot of money on the back end with the list he builds from this campaign. A responsive opt in list can be a valuable asset for years to come.

Lets look at the real genius of this campaign. The list is nothing compared to the army of affiliates that he his rapidly building 3 weeks before the project launches. I myself belong to quite a few internet marketers lists and everyone is jumping on the band wagon to make some easy quick cash. Let’s face it, how hard is it to give away something for free? I would like to see the metrics of this campaign so far. There has to be thousands of people promoting this already and it’s not even a full week in.

Andrew is also preparing more free content to give away prior to launch which will even further fuel the fire. I predict that Affiliate X Factor is going to be a huge success and may even have a shot at breaking some clickbank records. My hat goes off to Andrew Fox for this brilliant piece of viral marketing.

If you want to success in affiliate marketing, you must avoid those common mistakes made by most affiliates and follow the proven success path.

One of the common mistakes make by affiliates is they use too many banners in their affiliate sites. Although Banners with graphics and animation will make your site look attractive, banner marketing will not work for all market niches. You must study the effectiveness of using banners in the market niche you are interested in promoting with affiliate products. Niche markets such as casino gambling, games and entertainment may work fine with banners but finance, stock and home business may not attract internet users to click on the banners. The useful contents with recommendation for your affiliate products will drive more conversion from the traffic landed to your website to affiliate revenue.

3. Using Free Services

Affiliates who have their websites hosted at free hosting site with a free e-mail address will make their site looks not professional. Doing this is like sending the message to your website visitors that either you have not made any money or you really don’t what you are doing. Then, how can your potential subscribers or affiliate product’s buyers trust on what you are promoting?

Domain name and web hosting service are cheap today, you can get a domain name with a good web hosting package with less than $50 a year. In the long run, it will make your site look professional and more of your website visitors will take you seriously.

4. Think That Affiliate Revenue Is Easy Money

After consulting the most successful affiliate marketers in the business regarding the top two tools that are essential for any multi level marketing affiliate. My results should not surprise you, but I would like to emphasize and speak of the importance because you may get bombarded of all the over complicated ways and affiliate marketing software.

First: Incentives With Value

Competition is extremely tight in the internet world. You must always be one-step ahead of your rivals to ensure that you capture a significant share of your target market. Therefore, you must use every possible means to encourage people not only to visit your site but also to click and proceed to the websites of the products and services you are promoting. Building an opt-in email list is one of the best ways to gather prospects. Offer a newsletter or an e-zine. Better yet, offer incentives to your prospects to encourage them to subscribe to your newsletters. You can present free softwares, access to exclusive services and other freebies that will be helpful to your prospects.

Second: A Reliable Auto-responder

A must to have in this age and time when everyone finds themselves busy and to self occupied to take care of business on your terms. This tool allows you to build an important relationship without becoming a bug-a-boo. People will eventually get to know you and understand that you are either trying to sincerely help them, or there just to take their last penny.

Third: A Personal Website That Emphasize You

The most important and indispensable tool in Affiliate Marketing is your own website. The first step in any successful affiliate marketing business is building a good, credible and professional looking website. Your website is the jump off point of all your marketing efforts. Attracting people to your site should be the first step you should carry out. Thus, you must first build a user-friendly website, which will appeal to your prospects and encourage them to click on the links to the products and service you are promoting and make a purchase. Therefore, you must first concentrate your efforts in building a website that will cater to what your prospects need.

The most important thing you should consider is that almost all web users go online to look for information, not necessarily to go and buy something. Above all else, make your website full of original, relevant and useful content. People will love articles that are appealing and helpful. The importance of driving highly targeted traffic to your website cannot be emphasized enough. Keep in mind that, in the internet, content is still king and good quality content will not only build your credibility, it can also help you achieve a higher search engine ranking. By posting relevant and useful articles, you establish yourself as a credible expert in the field, making you a more trustworthy endorser of the product or service you promote. Establishing a good reputation is a good step in building up a loyal consumer base.

These are but three of the many tools that an affiliate marketer can use to maximize earning potential. The possibilities are endless and are limited only by your determination.

PPC Conversion Tracking for Affiliates

Pay per click advertising is a strategy for generating traffic which all affiliates aspire to master. Unfortunately for about ninety-five percent of them, mastery is something that will forever remain out of reach. Of the remaining five percent who do manage to profit from their campaigns, an understanding of conversion tracking is almost always the reason for their success.

So what exactly is conversion tracking?

It is the process of following the clicks, literally, to determine which campaigns are generating more revenue in affiliate commissions than the fees being paid out for the traffic being sent to that campaign. Ideally you want to be making at least twice in commissions what you are paying for the traffic, since this will net you a one hundred percent return on investment.

In order to assist affiliates in this enterprise, the affiliate networks allow affiliates to send along a tracking sub ID in their affiliate URLs. For example, if you are a ClickBank affiliate you will be familiar with the idea that you can add a TID variable to your affiliate URL. Many affiliates use this form of tracking to see which non-PPC traffic sources are generating sales. For example, links on their Squidoo pages might carry a tid=squidoo assignment in the affiliate link.

But zero-cost affiliate marketing techniques usually get affiliates only so far. Getting to the next level generally requires some form of paid traffic strategy. At this point it becomes extremely important to know which campaigns are generating sales, and which are simply wasting your money.

Usually it occurs to affiliates who have some appreciation of conversion tracking that they can track campaigns by attaching unique affiliate URLs to every keyword used to power an ad group. Often integer values are used for the tracking sub IDs and these are later matched up with keywords when the commission reports are made available by the affiliate networks. The only problem is that this can represent a LOT of work. Especially if you run campaigns that carry thousands of keywords.

So what is the answer?

Clearly some form of automation is called for. At this point affiliates look around for software that might be able to do the job for them. Unfortunately, there are not a whole lot of choices available. At least, not inexpensive ones. But there is one solution that implements a form of tracking that I can recommend. I think it will interest all affiliates hoping to take their pay per click efforts to the next level.

Every year super affiliate Jeremy Palmer spends hundreds of thousands of dollars paying for traffic from Google AdWords, Yahoo Search Marketing, and MicroSoft AdCenter. But not until he developed his own PPC conversion tracking solution did he see his profits really start to soar. He has now released his software under the name Optimize My Site.

Recently I got my hands on this software, and now I have written up a full review of it. To find out how Optimize My Site works, and determine whether or not it might be the conversion tracking solution that you are looking for, get across to my Optimize My Site Review page and find out why I used the term “flash of genius” in describing Jeremy’s software implementation. I guarantee that you’ll be pleasantly surprised at my conclusions.

Stephen Carter is an affiliate marketer and software developer. His web site at http://www.optimizemysitereview.com/ provides an in-depth review of Jeremy Palmer’s pay per click conversion tracking software known as Optimize My Site.

And they did it in a most unassuming manner.

Google has not formally announced its big news, but it now plans to offer to split commissions with Publishers making affiliates obsolete.

Why would publishers continue the additional work required when dealing with 1000 affiliates who are themselves promoting the publisher’s products on GOOGLE – when they can get one giant affiliate like GOOGLE instead?

And once again the rich get richer and the poor affiliates scratching out a living down here in the trenches will be left scrambling for the crumbs.

We are quite used to scrambling and jumping over each other to get the few crumbs that fall from the table of the big dogs – but now the situation will become much, much worse.

The program is called Conversion Optimizing. It is a pay-per-action model. GOOGLE is using all of the behavioral data they have collected on the web surfing population to target people based on their previous surfing habits.

It is also a cost-per-action model. If you tell GOOGLE, I will give you $.50 per opt-in, they will target those most likely to want your product or service and shower them with your offers wherever they go online.

With each of the above models you must have 50 sales/opt-ins within a 3 day period before you can turn on Conversion Optimizing. And it can be turned on right in your Adwords acount.

The worse part is that using this affiliate-genocide plan the publisher can offer GOOGLE YOUR affiliate commission and get more guaranteed sales/optins on a regular basis. And since there is no love lost between publishers and affiliates – why wouldn’t they?

It works like this:

If you (the advertiser) specify a relatively low target Cost-Per-Conversion, the tool will place conservative bids on only those keywords that Google thinks are a sure-thing in terms of their probability to convert for you – the result will likely be cheaper conversions, yet fewer of them – essentially, it will only go after the “low hanging fruit”.

Conversely by specifying a relatively higher target Cost-Per-Conversion, the Conversion Optimizer will have the ability to bid more aggressively, and will compete for higher ad positions on a broader keyword terms, likely resulting in a greater number of conversions, but at a higher cost.

However, new keyword management and keyword analytics solutions can help fundamentally alter this Cost-Per-Conversion vs. Volume of Conversion trade-off – by focusing on relevancy and Quality Score, advertisers can potentially realize both more conversions at lower costs.

In order to be eligible to use Google Conversion Optimizer, you must be using Google Conversion Tracking, and you must have accrued a minimum of 30 conversions in the last month so that Google can use that conversion history to help optimize your bids.

As you can see, this is an excellent idea – for everyone except the affiliate.

Things are about to get really, really rough if you have been relying on affiliate marketing as your sole source of income. The bottom line is that you must have a product or you are out of business.
